Güler Altınsoy, Needs Map Co-Founder, was elected to the Expert Group of European Commission’s

“Code of Conduct for Data Management and Sharing in the Social Economy”.

The European Commission is focusing on developing code of conduct for data management and sharing, highlighting the importance of the social economy within the framework of the Social Economy Action Plan. The code of conduct aims to improve the stability and reliability of data use in the industry.

In its 2021 strategy, the European Commission identified 14 industrial ecosystems that are important for the EU’s green and digital transformation. The social economy has taken its place among these ecosystems.

On 9 December 2021, the European Commission adopted the Social Economy Action Plan. With its new action plan on the social economy, the Commission has put forward concrete steps that will help unlock the full potential of the social economy. One of these concrete steps was to develop Code of Conduct for data management and sharing to support the use of technology in the social economy.

Leading actors in the ecosystem believe that collecting, storing, verifying and sharing data can be the basis of social, social and ecological solutions and create a positive impact.

Although some social economy actors can develop data-based business models, it is stated that the majority of actors do not have the awareness and capacity to develop these models. The Code of Conduct to be put forward by the expert group will be beneficial for improving the data management capacity and awareness of the actors in the ecosystem.
